Can You Use Wood Joists for Composite Decking?

You can use wooden joists when installing composite decking. However, if you want a composite deck as they are long-lasting, low maintenance and won’t rot, bear in mind that wooden joists may rot over time like any wood in wet conditions (unless treated). That’s why we offer Timber-Free Support Systems at Ecoscape.

Ecoscape Timber-Free Support Systems

At Ecoscape, we offer aluminium or solid plastic sub-frames as a base for your composite deck. The decking sub-frame consists of a timber-free support system with either aluminium or recycled plastic joists rather than wood joists and can be laid on the provided adjustable pedestals, solid plastic posts or concrete block works. Hidden fixings, including starter-clips and t-clips, are then attached to the perimeter of the frame so that the composite decking boards can simply clip on easily and securely.
