LIGHTING – Take your photos on bright days but avoid harsh midday sun. Early morning or in the evening when the sun is lower can be a good time of the day to take photos to ensure the colour of the products are true and there are not harsh shadows.

ANGLE – Ideal lifestyle shots are taken from roughly a metre off the floor. When your camera sits lower than eye level, your photos will look more like those you see in magazines.

SET THE SCENE – Setting the scene by dressing the area is a good way to show off your building or garden and achieving the best image result.

COMPOSITION – Try to create a variety of compositions such as a close up where the detail is shown, a mid shot to show the product clearly, centered in the image and also stand back to show the full design in its surroundings. Also try to take a combination of portrait and landscape photos.

AVOID FILTERS – Filters can alter the colour of the product so we’d prefer it if submissions can avoid the use of any filters.

AVOID DISTRACTIONS – Ensure the area you’re photographing is clean and tidy without any distracting elements.
